The Onebase assistant is a friendly help bot that lives in a panel next to the screen you're on. It has a robot icon (not a sparkle) — because it helps you use Onebase, not do the work for you. This page spells out exactly what it can and can't do, so you know what you're getting.
What it does
- Answers product and how-to questions, and explains what features do.
- Shows you exactly where in the app to go to do something.
- Links the right help article when one exists — for example Getting started.
What it doesn't do — so there are no surprises
- It doesn't read your data. It has no tools and no access to your records — it can't see your contacts, quotes, projects or employees. Ask "how many projects do I have?" and it cannot count; it's meant to show you where to see it yourself (the Prosjekter list).
- It performs no actions. It has no buttons to press: ask it to create a contact, move a quote or log hours and nothing can happen in your data, whatever it answers. It is instructed to explain the steps instead. If it ever phrases something as if it were done, that is a wording slip — not a change.
It replies in your language (write Norwegian, it answers Norwegian). It's included in your plan with no quota — there is only a light backstop against spam and runaway loops, which a normal user never reaches.
Attachments, and where they go
You can attach images, PDFs and text files (CSV, JSON, TXT, MD) to a message. That is the only way business data reaches the AI on this surface — the assistant fetches nothing itself. Your questions and the files you attach are sent to Anthropic, our AI sub-processor, to produce the answer. So don't attach national ID numbers or health/sick-leave data.
How long conversations are kept
The history sits in the side rail so you can find an answer again. You can delete a conversation yourself at any time — messages and attachments go with it. A conversation untouched for 24 months is deleted automatically, and a file you put in the composer without sending is cleared by the next daily sweep. Full picture: AI & your data.
Want AI that actually works in your data?
If you need AI that reads your real records, drafts across customers and projects, and actually makes changes — connect your own Claude to Onebase via MCP. That's a completely different connection from the help bot above: it sees your data, with your access and no more, and can perform actions (which are logged). Some things stay blocked whatever your role — platform admin, billing, privacy tooling and API keys. See Connect your own AI.
